8th January 2021
Dryland Event Management and Media24, regret to inform you that after extensive consultation with local authorities and role players, we have taken the tough but unavoidable decision to cancel the 2021 edition of The Karoo Burn. The race was set to take place on the 20th of February.
Our primary concern has always been the health and well-being of all participants, crew members and support service employees. We feel that it would be irresponsible for to push ahead with the 2nd edition of this unique race, which has secured its spot on the events calendar after the inaugural event hosted in 2020.
South Africa has been placed back into a Level 3 Lockdown in its quest to gain control over the Covid-19 pandemic that’s put the country’s health support systems under severe strain. The increased stringency of South Africa’s new localised approach to Corona Virus regulations also means that it is unlikely that the event would receive the necessary permissions and clearances to proceed from the various authorities in the Northern Cape as well as the Western Cape.
While most of us are returning from a bit of a holiday break, we’ve been reminded of how important it is to spend our time making memories. Taking part in an event, while doing what you love – along with like-minded people, is an essential part of staying healthy, both mentally and physically.
We share the frustration of not knowing what the future will bring, but we also want our industry to stay alive and keep the financial risks as low as possible for everyone involved.
Please find your options as followed:
- Your fully paid entry can be transferred to the 2022 event (19 February), with no additional charges.
- Your entry can be sold and transferred to another party, with no substitution fee charged.
- The value of your paid entry can be used as a credit to enter for The 36ONE MTB Challenge 2021 (14-16 May).
All entrants to the 2021 event will automatically be transferred to the 2022 event after 4 February 2021. Please contact Yolandi at email@example.com if you have any questions.
